Who We Are

The Alliance for Health Promotion was established in 1997 during the 4th International Conference on Health Promotion in Jakarta as an NGO Advisory Group to the World Health Organization (WHO). In 2008, it was formally registered as an international non-governmental organization under Swiss law with its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

Since its founding, the Alliance has evolved into a globally recognized actor in public health, achieving Official Relations with WHO and Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)—the highest level of institutional recognition for an NGO. Its work bridges the gap between global health declarations and local action, connecting civil society for healthier populations worldwide.

We align with the WHO Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion, emphasizing:

Building healthy public policies

Developing personal skills

Creating supportive environments

Strengthening community action

Reorienting health services

  • People Empowered to Live a Healthier Life

    A4HP Mission

  • Fairness Sustainability Integrity Accountability Transparency

    A4HP Core Values

  • The Vision of the Alliance relies on the aspiration to see empowered individuals and communities equipped with ownership of knowledge and the means to better control their health and fully enjoy a healthy life.
